Website maintenance is one of the murkiest categories in the Finnish digital industry. Prices range from €0/mo (DIY) to €500/mo, and what's actually included varies just as much. This guide explains what real WordPress maintenance covers, why a €19/mo plan isn't cheap, and what Visio Design's maintenance includes.

What does maintenance actually mean?

  • Security updates — WordPress core, themes and plugins updated monthly
  • Backups — automatic daily backups with restore capability
  • Uptime monitoring — site online 24/7, alert if it falls
  • Technical support — answering questions, solving problems
  • Performance monitoring — Lighthouse scores don't drop, site stays fast
  • Content updates — copy, image and blog updates (depending on tier)

What's missing from "€19/mo maintenance"?

Cheap maintenance plans (under €30/mo) are almost always just hosting — a server. They don't cover WordPress core updates, theme updates, plugin updates, backups, uptime monitoring or technical support. The outcome: WordPress core is out of date, plugins are six months stale, the site is exposed to attack, and sooner or later it goes down or someone breaks in. Repair cost is typically €500 – €5,000.

Risks of poor maintenance

  • Break-ins via known vulnerabilities — the most common way Finnish SMB sites get hacked
  • GDPR violations — the regulation requires reasonable security measures
  • Site crashes from compatibility issues when PHP or WordPress versions update
  • SEO collapse as performance drops because of stale plugins
  • Reputation and conversion damage from downtime

Visio Design's maintenance plans

  • Basic €149/mo — security updates, backups, uptime monitoring, basic care
  • Growth €249/mo — above + content updates 2h/mo + automated backups + performance report
  • Pro €449/mo — above + priority support + 5h changes/mo + monthly SEO report

All plans cover both WordPress and Next.js sites and can start within a month of the request. The first year of premium maintenance is always included in Visio Design website project pricing, so you don't need to pick a plan separately at launch.
