Overview

Simmer has built a reputation as one of the most respected providers of technical marketing education, with digital courses favored by top-tier professionals and large companies in Finland and abroad. As the business grew and its customer base expanded, the demands on the website grew with it — founders Simo and Mari Ahava wanted to lift the site's look to a new level and strengthen its usability at the same time.

We started the redesign with a demo built around the company's original visual identity and brand spirit. The demo gave Simmer's leadership a clear sense of where our design work was heading, and from the start we gave them real-time access to follow the progress of the development build.

Challenge

At the heart of the project sat not only a visual refresh but the integration and customization of the LearnDash LMS platform and the WooCommerce e-commerce plugin. Both bring deep feature sets, but combining and tailoring them came with its own set of challenges. Innovation and a forward-leaning attitude sit at the core of the Simmer brand, so the site needed to reflect those values both in its look and in how it works.

Solution

The visual design started from the Simmer logo, which set the tone for the rest of the site. We aimed for a modern, clean and dynamic look that signals trust and expertise. We drew on our deep experience with LearnDash and WooCommerce so the plugins could be integrated without compromising speed or usability. Our lead designer Eerik Anttila led the design process in close collaboration with both Simmer and our internal team. Communication didn't stop when the project ended — the partnership has continued well beyond the original delivery, supporting Simmer's ongoing digital needs.

Workshop and usability testing

We held a joint workshop with the Simmer team mid-project and, alongside it, ran several usability tests on the developing build.

  1. The joint workshop locked in design direction at the midpoint of the project.
  2. Usability tests refined the smallest details of the site.
  3. The sales funnel was optimized on the basis of those testing rounds.
